Dr. Cohlmia was born in Woodward, Oklahoma’s hospital and lived in Buffalo, Oklahoma for two years. His family moved to Wichita, Kansas where he completed his education through high school at Wichita West High School. His first semester of college was at Kansas University in Lawrence, Kansas and the next three and a half years of college was at Southwestern State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma. In 1970, he started dental school at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas. After dental school in 1974, he practiced general dentistry and was a Clinical Instructor at Baylor College of Dentistry in the Operative Department for two years. During the fall semester of 1976, Dr. Cohlmia started his Orthodontic graduate program at St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. After completion of his graduate program, he started his private practice in East Richardson in the fall of 1978, where he is actively practicing.
In addition to his Master of Science degree in Orthodontics, he is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics since 1989. Also, Dr. Cohlmia has been Invisalign™ Certified since 2001. His memberships include the Greater Dallas Association of Orthodontists, Texas Orthodontic Association, Texas Orthodontic Study Club, Southwest Society of Orthodontists, American Association of Orthodontists, Dallas County Dental Society, Texas Dental Association and the American Dental Association. In addition, Dr. Cohlmia supports Baylor College of Dentistry – Century Club, St. Louis Alumni Association and Orthodontic Education and Research Foundation in St. Louis, Missouri. He has supported the American Association of Orthodontic Foundation. Recent recognitions have been from the D Magazine 2003 “Best Dentists in Dallas – Orthodontists” voted on by his peers in the dental field. Also, the Texas Monthly Magazine has listed his ‘Best Orthodontist in Texas” 2003-2007. Dr. Cohlmia is an avid golfer, and gets out on the golf course every chance he gets.
He enjoys both college and professional sports. If you’re wondering who he roots for, that would be the Cowboys, Rangers and Mavericks on the professional level. But when it comes to college sports his teams are the University of Oklahoma for football and the University of Kansas for basketball. In his spare time he considers himself a “foodie” who enjoys both eating and cooking with family and friends.
